Mirai botnets launch global exploitation sweeps targeting PHP2Shell core memory corruption flaws CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619

Global threat intelligence telemetry confirms automated botnet infrastructure launching mass exploitation waves targeting web server runtimes. Threat actors leverage uninitialized memory allocation bugs in core request processing to execute remote code and enlist web hosts into Mirai botnet clusters.

The critical vulnerabilities, tracked as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 with CVSS v4.0 scores of 9.2, affect PHP engine releases 5.4 through 8.5. The security flaws reside within array hash table allocation subroutines handling multipart HTTP POST requests. Unauthenticated remote adversaries transmit malformed payload requests to corrupt internal memory structures, achieving remote command execution under the web daemon context before web application code executes. Threat telemetry tracks rotating proxy arrays dropping Mirai cryptominers and web shells.

Subverting central web engine runtimes compromises core internet hosting infrastructure. Because PHP processes requests for a major share of global web applications, an unauthenticated core remote code execution flaw allows threat actors to establish persistent web shell backdoors, hijack host compute resources, and pivot into backend database subnets.

– Upgrade production PHP environments immediately to patched maintenance releases 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36, or 8.2.35.

– Restrict multipart/form-data POST requests at reverse proxies or web application firewalls for non-upload endpoints.

– Inspect web server hosting roots for unauthorized shell scripts or newly modified executable files.

– Monitor host process trees for anomalous command prompt or shell invocations originating from PHP worker processes.

Web application engine defense requires immediate dependency patch application and strict edge request filtering to ensure hosting infrastructure remains protected against automated botnet exploitation. #CodeDefence #PHP #PHP2Shell #Mirai #Botnet #RCE #AppSec #WebSecurity #PatchManagement
