F5 BIG IP APM heap buffer overflow vulnerability CVE-2026-8812 exploited for unauthenticated remote code execution

Application delivery controller threat updates detail active exploitation targeting identity and access policy management gateways. Unauthenticated remote adversaries exploit memory boundary errors to cause heap memory corruption and execute arbitrary code on exposed virtual servers.

The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-8812, affects F5 BIG-IP Access Policy Manager APM systems configured with an access policy and an OAuth profile on a virtual server. The defect stems from improper memory boundary checks during OAuth token parsing. Unauthenticated remote attackers transmit malformed HTTP connection requests to trigger a heap-based buffer overflow, overwriting process memory structures to achieve remote code execution under the context of the underlying service daemon process.

Subverting access policy gateways compromises perimeter single sign-on boundaries and application authentication. Because BIG-IP APM virtual servers enforce access control policies across corporate web applications, an unauthenticated gateway takeover permits threat actors to bypass authentication controls and access protected backend systems.

– Upgrade BIG-IP APM software installations immediately to official vendor-supplied fixed release builds.

– Disable vulnerable OAuth profile configurations on public virtual servers where emergency patches cannot be immediately applied.

– Inspect BIG-IP system access logs for malformed HTTP requests containing unexpected OAuth token payload lengths.

– Enforce strict web application firewall WAF rules to inspect and drop malformed HTTP headers targeting APM endpoints.

Access gateway defense depends on continuous memory safety validation and rapid hotfix deployment to ensure application delivery controllers remain protected against unauthenticated heap overflow exploits. #CodeDefence #F5 #BIGIP #APM #HeapOverflow #RCE #PerimeterSecurity #IdentitySecurity #AppSec #PatchManagement
