APT group UAT-11473 exploits Cisco SD WAN auth bypass zero day CVE-2026-20127 to deploy KeyDrift malware

Perimeter threat research advisories published today detail targeted nation-state intrusion campaigns against enterprise software-defined networking infrastructure. Advanced threat actors exploited an unauthenticated authentication bypass zero-day to install persistent malware frameworks across central routing controllers.

The attack campaign, attributed to threat group UAT-11473, weaponized authentication bypass flaw CVE-2026-20127 affecting Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Controllers. Unauthenticated remote adversaries transmit crafted management API packets to bypass portal authentication handlers, obtaining root administrative access on controller appliances. Forensic telemetry confirms attackers leveraged root privileges to drop KeyDrift, a modular C-based malware framework designed to intercept network traffic, execute memory-resident payloads, and maintain covert persistence.

Subverting central SD-WAN management controllers destroys enterprise network perimeter boundaries. Because SD-WAN controllers dictate site-to-site routing policies and manage encrypted tunnel keys, an unauthenticated controller compromise permits threat actors to inspect transit traffic, hijack routing paths, and pivot into branch office subnets.

– Apply official maintenance updates published by Cisco for Catalyst SD-WAN Controller software immediately.

– Restrict public WAN visibility of SD-WAN controller management portals, placing management interfaces on isolated VLANs.

– Inspect SD-WAN appliance file systems for unverified executable binaries or modified system configuration daemons.

– Rotate administrative credentials and IPSec encryption keys managed across SD-WAN routing fabrics.

Software-defined WAN security relies on strict management interface isolation and rapid patch deployment to ensure corporate routing controllers remain protected against zero-day authentication bypass attacks. #CodeDefence #Cisco #SDWAN #KeyDrift #ZeroDay #AuthBypass #NetworkSecurity #APT #AppSec
