Docker Hub flaw CVE-2026-105445 allowed attackers to impersonate users and tamper with container repositories

Container registry maintainers have issued security disclosures detailing a high-severity authentication bypass vulnerability in cloud repository management infrastructure. Threat actors could manipulate personal access token scopes to obtain unauthorized access to third-party container repositories.

The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-105445, affected Docker Hub registry API authorization handlers. The flaw involved improper scope validation when processing Personal Access Tokens PATs. An attacker with a valid Docker Hub account could transmit malformed API calls incorporating forged token parameters, allowing them to impersonate other platform users, access private container repositories, and push malicious container image builds to public registry namespaces. Docker engineering teams deployed server-side hotfixes to resolve token scope evaluation.

Subverting central container registries introduces severe software supply chain contamination across cloud-native environments. If threat actors push malicious container layers to production registries, automated deployment pipelines pull and deploy compromised container images directly into production Kubernetes clusters.

– Audit active Docker Hub Personal Access Tokens PATs across organization accounts and enforce least-privilege scoping.

– Implement cryptographic container image signing using Cosign to verify build provenance before executing images in cluster environments.

– Inspect container registry push logs for unauthorized image version tags or unverified user access calls.

– Enforce automated vulnerability scanning across container images stored within cloud registry accounts.

Cloud container registry security depends on rigid API authorization checks and continuous image provenance verification to ensure production software supply chains remain protected from container tampering. #CodeDefence #Docker #DockerHub #ContainerSecurity #DevSecOps #SupplyChain #CloudSecurity #AppSec
