CISA reaches September 30 patch deadline for actively exploited Citrix NetScaler zero days CVE-2026-88771 and CVE-2026-88772

Federal civilian executive branch agencies face today’s mandatory compliance deadline under Binding Operational Directive 26-04 to remediate two actively exploited Citrix NetScaler vulnerabilities. Systems remaining unpatched face mandatory disconnection orders across federal enterprise networks.

The mandatory remediation mandate applies to NetScaler ADC and Gateway input validation flaw CVE-2026-88771 and DTLS buffer overflow flaw CVE-2026-88772, both carrying CVSS scores of 9.5. Threat intelligence reports confirm adversaries actively exploiting both zero-days to deploy custom web shells and tunneling malware, obtain root access, and harvest active session credentials across internet-exposed gateway appliances.

Failing to remediate actively weaponized edge access gateways leaves internal corporate networks vulnerable to persistent footholds. Because NetScaler appliances manage single sign-on user sessions and SSL VPN tunnel terminations, an unauthenticated takeover permits threat actors to intercept transit traffic, extract user session tokens, and pivot into internal subnets.

– Upgrade Citrix NetScaler ADC and NetScaler Gateway installations immediately to current patched maintenance releases.

– Invalidate active remote access user session tokens and execute mandatory administrative account credential rotations.

– Perform forensic compromise audits across appliance filesystem directories to check for unauthorized web shell implants or rogue binaries.

– Restrict public internet routing to NetScaler management portals by placing interfaces on isolated out-of-band management subnets.

Perimeter security gateway protection demands strict adherence to threat-informed remediation deadlines and proactive forensic auditing to ensure central access controllers remain shielded from unauthenticated remote code execution. #CodeDefence #Citrix #NetScaler #CISA #KEV #RCE #ZeroDay #NetworkSecurity #AppSec
